Data flow

What data can move between ecommerce and warehouse systems?

Common flows include orders, customers, products, inventory, allocations, cancellations, dispatch confirmation, carrier details and tracking. The exact scope depends on what each platform supports and which system owns each record.

Does the integration need to use APIs?

Not always. APIs and webhooks may be best for timely updates, while CSV, XML, SFTP, direct SQL or scheduled jobs can be appropriate for platforms with different capabilities.

Reliability

What happens when an order cannot be imported?

The workflow should validate the order, record why it failed, make the exception visible and allow safe correction or retry. Failed records should not disappear or create uncontrolled duplicates.

Can tracking be sent back to the ecommerce platform?

Yes, when the warehouse or freight platform provides the required status and the ecommerce platform accepts updates. The flow may also update ERP or internal customer service systems.
